Indian Lake is a 506-acre all-sports lake between Eau Claire and Dowagiac, two hours from Chicago and less than 40 minutes from the University of Notre Dame. The maximum depth is 31 feet, and fishing includes bluegill, bass, pike, perch, walleye, and crappie. Home prices range from XX to YY. A municipal sewer system has served the community since the 1980s.
The family-owned Timberline Inn, within walking distance of the lake on the north side, has offered fine dining since the 1950s. The 27-hole Indian Lake Hills Golf Course on the west side was started in the 1920s and expanded in the 1960s and 1990s. The Indian Lake Yacht Club is on the east side. Twenty-two homes on the east side, built on leased land, belong to the Indian Lake Club (indianlakeclub.com), founded in 1897. Numerous microbreweries have opened within a 15-mile radius, which also includes Michigan’s wine country and fruit belt. The lake is 16 miles from Lake Michigan and within easy day trips to St. Joseph, Saugatuck, Grand Haven, and Kalamazoo.
The Indian Lake Improvement Association (Indianlk.com) was organized in 2000 to preserve, protect, and improve the quality of the lake. It oversees the whole-lake aeration system installed in 2012 that has drastically improved the water quality, eliminating blue algae, reducing Eurasian watermilfoil to a minimum, and removing undesirable sediments.
Indian Lake is a perfect place for living the lake life in your home or your home away from home.
