It is less than half an hour from South Bend and Chicago is less than two hours away. It is also an all-sports lake, so it is a good destination for a range of water sports. These include Blue Chip Casino Hotel Spa in Michigan City and Four Winds Casino in New Buffalo. Beyond gaming, these casinos offer dining, shopping, and other amenities. The Barron Lake area has some nice restaurants if you want a bite to eat. Wegner’s Lakeside Bar & Grill is a great place to eat just off Barron Lake. Prime Table and Home Plate Restaurant are other good dining options in the area.

Most people will find more than enough for outdoor activities on and around Barron Lake.

Boating: Barron Lake is a great place for boaters. You can take out boats of various sizes including kayaks and canoes.

Fishing: The lake is also popular among fishing enthusiasts. The lake has bluegill, walleye, largemouth and smallmouth bass.

Swimming: Barron Lake has a swimming area. The clear waters are perfect for cooling off on a hot summer day.

Parks: There are several parks in the area. Some of the parks have playgrounds and ball fields. Others have hiking trails. One well known park is Arthur Dodd Memorial Park.

Golfing: Golfers can enjoy some of the nearby golf courses. Plym Park Golf Course is only about ten minutes from the lake. There is also Brookwood Golf Course, about 15 minutes from the lake.

Skiing: Swiss Valley Ski & Snowboard Area is only about 40 minutes from Barron Lake. The area has several trails for skiing and snowboarding.
