Lake Templene is a manmade lake just outside Centerville, Michigan. Its formation was a result of the damming of the Prairie River. The resulting reservoir includes Camel Lake, Sauger Lake, and Sylvan Lake. Lake Templene is a 900-acre lake with depths of up to 35 feet. It is two and a half hours from Chicago and about an hour from South Bend, Indiana.

Lake Templene’s creation was for real estate development and recreation. With its all-sports designation, it is a great place for activities like fishing and boating.

Lake Templene Area Attractions

Lake Templene is a wonderful place to visit. The lake has a lot to offer, but there is also more to do in the area.

You could be in South Bend in about an hour and in Kalamazoo in less than an hour from the lake. Both cities have many attractions. People come from all over to visit the University of Notre Dame in South Bend. Kalamazoo and South Bend also have attractions like museums, restaurants, and performing venues.

The lake is about ten minutes from the St Joseph County Grange Fairgrounds. It is the site of the annual St Joseph County Grange Fair. The fair promotes agriculture and has many farm exhibits. It also has amusement park rides, games, and other attractions.

Butternut Sustainable Farm is on the lake’s south end. It is a great place to get fresh produce if you are staying near the lake. The farm is also sustainable, so you know they grow their produce responsibly.

Hiking: Residents and visitors can find many opportunities to hike. Covered Bridge Farm County Park and Langley Covered Bridge are nearby. There’s also Pahl Point Park.

Golfing: The area around Lake Templene has a few golf courses. Island Hills Golf Club is just off the lake’s west end while St Joe Valley Golf Club is also near the lake.

Swimming: Lake Templene has cool, clear water for swimming. There is also a nice beach on nearby Sand Lake.

Boating: In addition to fishing, Lake Templene is great for boating, kayaking, canoeing, and water skiing. There is a boat launch on Nottawa Road.

Offroad: Off-Road vehicles are popular in the area. There are many trails for off-road riding. Rouch World Off-Road Park is a popular destination for off-roading. Many of the trails are also good for snowmobiles during winter.
