Whether you’re looking for a dive bar or something a little more upscale, the lake country has something for everyone.

Enjoy this shortlist of entertaining establishments in Southwest Michigan.

Zimmy’s Tavern

Looking for the best Bloody Mary’s in Southwest Michigan? Zimmy’s is the place! Located between Baldwin and Long Lakes in Union, Zimmy’s is the definition of a dive bar offering up quality drinks, the best burgers around, and the ambiance to go with it. I love the word “tavern!” Check their Facebook page for updates. Live music on occasion, too. Don’t miss Zimmy’s!

Kathy’s Riverside Tavern

If you’re going to Benton Harbor, this little “hole in the wall” bar has some of the best burgers in SW Michigan. Happy hour starts from 4 pm to 6 pm on weekdays. You should try their local and international craft beers on tap while playing pool or darts. Kathy’s Riverside Tavern is a sure spot to check in with Berrien County with a relaxing and friendly atmosphere.

Old Dog Tavern

Located in Kalamazoo, Old Dog Tavern claims to have the best mac and cheese in the area. With local craft beers are on tap and with the best mac & cheese, how can you miss it! Not big on hops? Old Dog also offers a full bar for your responsible drinking pleasure. The ambiance is cozy and relaxed. You might catch some local bands and musicians playing on weekends too.

The Landmark Taphouse and Grille

In Three Rivers, The Landmark Taphouse is the place to go. It’s a bit nicer and doesn’t have the dive bar feel of my other entries but has excellent food and drink. If you go, try the Brussel Sprouts Chips. They are amazing! You can make a meal out of those alone if you’re not in the mood for the dining room.

The Strand Brewery

Up in the Sister Lakes just outside of Dowagiac is the Strand. Great ambiance and excellent food with a view of Round Lake, they are back open after closing down, pretty much, for the holidays. The feature outstanding ribs and the “Notorious Burger” which is well, Notorious! Great drinks and live music. What else can you ask for!?

Fat Cam’s at Garver Lake

Fat Cam’s in another nice spot on Garver Lake. Like shrimp and grits? Fat Cam’s has it in spades! Very favorably reviewed with a great selection of cocktails and local craft beer, you can’t miss at Fat Cam’s.

Fat Cam’s is good at updating their status on their Facebook page, so check it before you go. Staff availability has been a bit tough on all businesses of late, and Fat Cam’s is doing their best to stay open as much as possible. Support local businesses!
