Winter doesn’t put Southwest Michigan to sleep. The sight of falling snow and the lowering temperatures is an indication that things are just about to get started. Winter Activities in Southwest Michigan are everywhere. 

A Winter Wonderland

Southwest Michigan averages between 48″ to 72″ of snow annually, making it an ideal location for all sorts of winter activities. The closer to the Great Lakes and the further north you get, the more snow there is. 

Ice climbing, ice luge, ice diving, ice sailing, snowmobiling, and more are all fun winter activities in Southwest Michigan. Here are a few more winter events to enjoy.

Polar Plunge – Kalamazoo 

The Polar Plunge is not for a faint at heart, literally! Head to Kalamazoo and participate in the Polar Plunge. As they say, “we’re freezin for a reason!” The Polar Plunge is a Michigan-wide fundraiser and benefits the Michigan Special Olympics. The Polar Plunge takes place from January to March. After the plunge, a party immediately follows to give the participants more chance to warm up while enjoying food and camaraderie. 

So get your thick skin on and register for the Michigan Special Olympics Kalamazoo Polar Plunge on February 22nd! 8:30 am registration, 10 am plunge. BRRRRR!!

Winter Village – Baroda

In Baroda, you can have a less chilling time at the Winter Village at Round Barn Winery, no plunge required! The village is complete with heated tents and outdoor fire pits. It’s a perfect mix of indoor comfort and outdoor adventure. Visitors can kick back and relax in front of a fire pit, sipping a featured beverage. Beverages range from hot mulled cider or chocolate with cream wine. Winter could be harsh and cold, but the perfect beverage for your winter is just nearby.

Drive to Baroda Winter Village and drink up the winter freeze. The Village is kid and pet friendly, too!

Ice Skating – Portage

Ice skating is best enjoyed outdoors under a clear blue sky. The outdoor ice rink in Millennium Park in Portage has all boxes checked on how ice skating should be. Millennium Park is one of the most popular outdoor rink in Michigan throughout the winter. Millennium Park Ice Skating Rink in Portage is the perfect family spot for outdoor fun this winter.
