The lake is about a two-hour drive from Chicago and a 40-minute drive from South Bend. People come from all over to enjoy the clean, clear waters of Long Lake. However, there is more to the region than just the lakes. You could be in South Bend in less than forty minutes on a good day. There is also Elkhart, about 20 minutes from Long Lake. Between the cities, there are myriad attractions to enjoy after a short ride. Kalamazoo is also about an hour from Long Lake. There are also some good wineries in the area including Fruit Hills Winery in Bristol, Indiana and Gateway Cellars Winery in Elkhart.

Mottville Speedway is an ideal attraction for lovers of motorsports. They have races at the track every week. The speedway is only about 15 minutes from the lake in White Pigeon, Michigan. The Shipshewana Flea Market offers a shopping experience unique to the area. It is only about a half-hour away in Shipshewana, Indiana. This outdoor market has everything from clothing and home decor to electronics and outdoor goods. The flea market is open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from May to September. George’s Bar and Grill is a good choice for dining near the lake. It is between Long Lake and Baldwin Lake on Sunset Boulevard. Across the street is Zimmy’s Tavern which is a popular place to get drinks and pub food.

Fishing: Long Lake is a popular destination for fishing. Fish species in the lake include bluegill, black crappie, and walleye.

Boating: The lake is a great place for boating. It provides a boat launch and rentals nearby.

Hiking: There are several hiking trails in the area. One nice option for hiking is Pipewort Pond Nature Preserve. It is a short drive across the state line in Bristol, Indiana.

Canoeing and Kayaking: Canoeing and kayaking are popular activities on Long Lake, along with nearby St Joseph River.
